Church Security Workshop

Date: Saturday, September 30th, 2017

Time: 8:00am - 12:15pm

Location: Westwood Community Church, Excelsior, MN

Criminal activity and violence is rising at “soft targets” like churches and schools. The mission of the Church Security Awareness Training (CSAT) workshop is to bring together subject matter experts from the fields of faith security, physical security, group violence and terrorism. To educate and raise awareness of safety in worship, the presenters share their expertise to support church leaders, administrators, facilities managers, safety directors, emergency responders, volunteers and those dedicated to protecting places of worship.

Speaker and Topic: Dr. Jarret Brachman, Inside the Mind of a Mass Killer: The Case of Dylann Roof

Jarret Brachman, Ph.D. is a specialist on global terrorism and violent extremism. He currently directs the Global Threat Intelligence program at Wells Fargo, leading a team of intelligence analysts in strategic threat forecasting and operational support for the bank. Brachman also retains a formal advisory role with the U.S. national intelligence community, consulting on counterterrorism related issues. Prior to Wells Fargo, Brachman directed a security intelligence program at North Dakota State University in his hometown of Fargo, ND. In that role, Brachman trained thousands of law enforcement professionals, first responders, and court personnel around the country on physical security and counterterrorism matters. Brachman was previously the founding director of research for the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy - West Point and a Graduate Fellow with the CIA’s Counterterrorist Center.

Speaker and Topic: Dr James Densley, When Love and Hate Collide: Crime Trends in Places of Worship

James A. Densley, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Metropolitan State University, part of the Minnesota State system. He has received local, national, and international media attention for his work on street gangs, criminal networks, violence, and policing. Densley is the author of Minnesota’s Criminal Justice System (Carolina Academic Press, 2016), the award-winning How Gangs Work (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), and over 20 refereed articles and book chapters in leading social science outlets. Speaker and Topic: Mr. Simon Osamoh, Security for Faith Organizations: 7 Steps to Protect Your Faith Community
