2nd Annual Record-Journal Best of the Bunch Brunch 2017

A Celebration of Local High School Athletes

2017 Event Highlights:

  • Keynote Speaker: Rebecca Lobo, NCAA National Champion & Olympic Gold Medalist
  • Master of Ceremonies: Joe Zone, WFSB Channel 3 Eyewitness News Sports Director
  • Date: Sunday, June 25, 2017
  • Time: 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM
  • Location: Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry Street, Southington
  • Honoring: 275+ local high school athletes from Meriden, Wallingford, Southington and Cheshire for their achievements throughout the school year

This inspiring and unique community event will honor more than 275 local high school athletes from Meriden, Wallingford, Southington and Cheshire for their achievements throughout the school year, including Record-Journal Athletes of the Week, Record-Journal Scholar Athletes and All R-J Teams nominees. More than 20 athletes will be honored as the best in their sport, Male and Female Athletes of the Year will be named, Male and Female Scholar Athletes of the Year will be named and a Coach of the Year will be named.

The winner of the Wallingford Buick GMC $5,000 Scholarship will also be announced at the Brunch! All eligible students can access the $5,000 online scholarship application by clicking here.

Brunch will be served. The public is invited to this special event. ALL TICKETS MUST BE RESERVED ONLINE BEFORE THE EVENT TO GUARANTEE SEATING. STUDENT ATHLETE NOMINEE TICKETS ARE FREE, BUT STILL REQUIRE A TICKET RESERVATION.

  • Rebecca is an award-winning athlete and successful television analyst, author and motivational speaker
  • In 1995, she led the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball Team to its first National Championship and was named the Consensus National Player of the Year
  • In 1996, she was the youngest member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team
  • She had a seven-year career in the WNBA
  • In 2001, she and her mother, RuthAnn, founded The RuthAnn and Rebecca Lobo Scholarship in Allied Health at the University of Connecticut to encourage diversity in the health professions
  • Currently, she is a commentator for ESPN focusing on women’s basketball
  • Rebecca's awards and honors include:1995 AP Female Athlete of the Year, the 1995 ESPY for Outstanding Female Athlete and the 1995 Sportswoman of the Year award from the Women’s Sports Foundation
