The Philadelphia Trauma Training Conference

Preventing Childhood Trauma and it's Impact Across the Lifespan:
An Interprofessional Agenda for Providers, Advocates, Policy Makers, and Community Members


The Second Annual Philadelphia Trauma Training Conference will provide an intensive, collaborative training experience to providers, educators and leaders across health, education, and social service disciplines, as well as to community members invested in the health of their families, neighborhoods, and cities.


Participants will identify, explore and experience approaches to:

  • Prevent incidences of trauma for their patients, students, clients and family members within their organizations and communities;
  • Mitigate the impact of trauma exposure on individuals, communities and systems in order to prevent negative social, psychological, educational and health outcomes; and
  • Prevent vicarious trauma to sustain a healthy, vibrant workforce and community.

The conference aims to develop and build trauma knowledge and competencies across disciplines, professions and workforce sectors including:

  • Medical/Healthcare
  • Young Children (ages 0-5)
  • K-12 Schools and Systems
  • Justice System
  • Child Welfare
  • Higher Education
  • Community Members (Caregivers, Parents, Block Captains, among others)
  • Philanthropic Supporterss
  • Faith Based (Leaders, Organizations: Will attend the day 1 workshops with those in the community track)
  • Policy Makers and Advocates (Will attend the day 1 workshops which best align with their duties and interests)


Proposed Schedule (details will be added as programming is finalized)

Day 1 of the Conference (Monday July 23, 2018)

Morning Session: Participants will engage in discipline-specific trauma trainings workshops alongside peers and experts in their professional discipline / domain. Participants will choose from one of the following Learning Tracks for these discipline-specific trauma trainings workshops.:

  1. Young Child (0-5)*
  2. K-12 Education (K12)
  3. Medicine/Health (MED
  4. Clinical Mental Health (MH)
  5. Justice System (JS)
  6. Child Welfare (WEL)
  7. Philanthropy (PHIL)
  8. Community and Faith Based (COM)

    *The Young Child (0-5) track is appropriate for providers invested in the social-emotional health of children ages 0-5, including early interventionist, child care providers, infant mental health clinicians, and pediatricians.

    **Policy Makers and Advocates will have the opportunity to indicate which of the above learning tracks best align with their professional duties

Afternoon Session: Participants will engage in interprofessional case conceptualization and practice. Participants will emerge with enhanced trauma knowledge and skills, with a greater understanding of the role of other professions in integrated care, and with increased motivation and capacity to apply learning in practice.



Days 2 and 3 of the Conference (Tuesday and Wednesday, July 24 and 25, 2018)

Participants will be exposed to innovative trauma practice models, applications, special topics / populations, poster sessions, self-care sessions and more. Sessions will be interprofessional and of varying lengths, allowing flexibility of scheduling and exposure to a wide range of topics and materials.
