Event description

Description

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. It is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. When these cells die the brains ability to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. This means that patients in the later stage of the disease become totally paralyzed with the brain functioning at capacity. In June of 2001 Joe was diagnosed with ALS.

Joe battled “Lou Gehrig’s disease” for 3 ½ years. Just getting out of bed and buttoning his shirt was a daily battle. He struggled with the smallest tasks that we take for granted. His battle with this disease and his desire to survive took him to Mexico for alternative treatment. As the disease progressed he needed 24/7 care which was provided in his home.

The ALS Association were our FEET when we were faced with one of the biggest challenges of our life! In addition to the home visits, arranging transportation back and forth to the clinic, approving the need for hospice care, advice on medicare and social security funding the ALS Association does much more. Their advice and unconditional support is second to none.

We need your continued support !!!

Please join us on November 27th for a great night of GIVING....
