Boston Women’s Fund’s 2nd Annual Girls Day on the Hill

On Thursday, April 18th BWF will be hosting its Second Annual Girls’ Day on the Hill (GDH) at the Massachusetts State House. GDH is a two-day event where girls from Boston between the ages of 13 and 18 can expand their understanding of the policy world and consider running for political office in the future.

The first day of the event will allow the young women to come together to learn more about how women at the community levels have advocated for changes that affect their communities. The second day will take place at the Massachusetts State House and will include multiple opportunities for you to share your experiences and concerns with your state and local representatives.


Outline for the Day 1: Location TBD

10:30am Intro to Legislative Advocacy (Part 1):Review of Research Assignment

12:30pm Lunch

1:15pm Case Studies of Recent Community Advocacy Campaigns

2:15pm Preparing talking points for Meeting with State and Local legislators on Thursday, April 18th.

3pm End of Day

Outline for the Day 2: Massachusetts State House and Other Locations

10:00am Light Breakfast at State House (Nurse’s Hall, Massachusetts State House)

10:30am Introductions

11:00am Panel with State and local women legislators (45 mins) Q&A

11:45am BREAK [walk over to the UMASS Boston Club]

12:00pm Lunch @ UMASS Boston Club

1:30pm Tour of the State House (45 min)

2:30pm Activity: Girls to Introduce themselves to their State Representatives

3:30pm Adjourn at BWF Offices


Participants

We are inviting young women between the ages of 13 and 21 that currently reside in Boston. The girls in attendance will hear about the connection between advocacy and policy from female legislators on the Hill. This event is co-sponsored by and in participation with the Office of Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, Representative Liz Malia, and Councilor Anissa Eassaibi-George.

Food/Refreshments

Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Boston Women’s Fund. Additionally, light refreshments may be served during the day’s activities. Please notify BWF about dietary needs/restrictions through the Eventrbite registration form. This includes food allergies, dietary restrictions due to health, cultural, religious reasons, or any other restrictions.
