This keynote will focus on understanding what is known about “today’s” more potent marijuana. It will give information on the short and long term effects of marijuana use and will provide an understanding of the term “medical” marijuana. Impact data from Colorado and other legalized stated will be reviewed.

In this presentation, a clear definition of the Emerging Adulthood stage of development will be defined. There are five distinct (although not unique) features of emerging adulthood: identity exploration, instability, self-focus, feeling in-between, and possibilities or optimism. These will each be discussed and appropriate clinical applications described and demonstrated.

This session will focus on the disease of co-dependency affecting patients suffering from substance abuse disorder and their families. Symptoms of co-dependency, the analogy of the alarm clock that families continue to silence, and a discussion of enabling, dysfunction, and helping will be discussed.
