Keynote Address: John Bournas, CEO & President of ISPE
John E. Bournas is currently the CEO & President of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), based in Bethesda, Maryland. In this capacity, He is responsible for developing the 20,000 strong Society’s global initiatives and business operations that include leveraging technology to extend the reach of ISPE’s Membership, educational and training programs, among others.
Prior to this role, Mr. Bournas was the CEO and Executive Director of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), an international patient-focused healthcare association, headquartered in Montreal, Canada. The WFH is comprised of 127 country-based societies and is officially recognized by the WHO.
Mr. Bournas was also a Senior Director of International Affairs at the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the largest global professional society for cardiologists. He has also worked in the pharmaceutical industry, having been a Senior Director at Cardinal Health and was involved in foreign affairs earlier in his career.
Mr. Bournas has a B.A in International Affairs, an M.A in Political Science from Fordham University in New York and an MBA from Macquarie University of Sydney, Australia. He is completely fluent in English and Spanish. He is also proficient in French and Portuguese, as well as having comprehension of Greek and Japanese. Mr. Bournas is married with four children and currently resides in the Washington DC area.

2:15 - 3:15 Quality Risk, Lou Angelucci, Johnson & Johnson. Lou is a senior project manager at Johnson & Johnson. He is a corporate executive with over twenty five years of experience in all aspects of cGMP facility, equipment and systems cGMP compliance validation projects and management.
3:30 - 4:30 Regulatory Risk, Gayle Lawson, FDA HHS Investigations Branch, Philadelphia District

1:00 - 2:00 Facilities, Michael Blackton, Adaptimmune. Michael Blackton is Vice President, Quality Assurance and CMC with responsibility for the quality assurance function supporting chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) for Adaptimmune’s clinical pipeline. His career spans over 25 years in biotechnology, medical device and pharmaceuticals where he has held leadership positions in manufacturing, quality, operations, and engineering.
2:15 - 3:15 Insights into Passivation and Rouge, Patrick Banes, Astro Pak. Patrick Banes is currently the Northeast Technical Sales Manager for Astro Pak Corporation responsible for sales and market development. Prior to joining Astro Pak, Patrick was the Vice President of Business Development for Oakley Specialized Services, Inc. During his 30 years of experience, Patrick has made numerous presentations on the subjects of passivation of austenitic stainless steel and rouge for the AICHE, ASME BPE, ASTM, IIR, IQPC, ISPE, PDA, Fortune 500 companies and other technical educational organizations.
3:30 - 4:30 Design and Construction Management, Bill O'Brien, Jared Craig and Anthony Detweiler, IPS Bill O'Brien has over 14 years of experience in project delivery. His broad experience in the pharmaceutical industry includes capital planning, implementing projects, design management, project cost tracking, bid package preparation and analysis, schedule preparation and tracking, subcontract management, commissioning/validation assistance and coordination, and performing building maintenance/engineering tasks
Jared Craig has over 15 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and semiconductor industries. His areas of expertise include project management and HVAC/mechanical engineering, commissioning, field services, and construction management. His design experience extends from Feasibility Studies and Concept Development through Detailed Design and Construction Support.
Anthony Detweiler offers over nineteen years of experience in the construction industry directing the construction of buildings from site preparation through construction and turnover to the owner/developer. As a Construction General Superintendent, he is accomplished in directing the planning, coordination, and execution of work to meet or exceed deadlines and profit expectations. With a strong emphasis on mechanical/electrical/piping system construction and implementation, Anthony always delivers service and a quality-based product.
