Description

25th Annual Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Conference: Journey to Safety, Justice & Healing

Please join the Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council and the Office of Women's Policy for the 25th Annual Domestic Violence Conference, The Journey to Safety, Justice and Healing, which will take place on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. This year, the conference curriculum examines the history of the domestic violence movement as we celebrate 25 years of collaboration, awareness and education to prevent domestic violence in Santa Clara County.

The morning keynote is Brigid McCaw, MD, MPH, MS, the founder and Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente’s Family Violence Prevention Program in Northern California. Dr. McCaw was instrumental in starting the Family Violence Prevention Program at Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center in 1998. This inspiring, innovative and effective model provides a comprehensive and integrated approach to build awareness, provide care, and prevent domestic violence. Dr. McCaw will discuss the creation and evolution of this innovative program, how it has changed the way the medical field addresses family violence today, and the future of violence prevention in health care settings.

The afternoon plenary will include an Emeritus Panel featuring some of the county’s pioneers in domestic violence prevention and intervention as well as current and emerging leaders. They will take us on a journey back to the 1st annual conference and how the county responded to domestic violence 25 years ago. The panel will examine lessons learned along with current and emerging research and practices that will guide us toward a broader, more comprehensive approach to ending domestic violence.

We aim our content at a wide range of interdisciplinary professionals serving those impacted by domestic violence, including law enforcement, criminal and civil attorneys, court staff, judges, mental health professionals, victim advocates, child welfare professionals, educators and healthcare providers. Attendance is well over 300 people each year, and we provide continuing education credits for mental health professionals, attorneys and nurses.
