Event description

Description

This year marks the 25th Annual Asian American Mental Health Training Conference. The purpose of this year’s training is to examine the gains in overcoming stigma, shame, and isolation, yet how they continue to be barriers to treating our Asian American consumers with mental health issues. This one-day training conference is designed for mental health professionals, students/trainees, consumers and family members to acquire knowledge and skills on helping Asian American consumers and their family members in tackling these barriers.

Specifically, the conference will enable participants to address:
1) Stigma as the blight challenging Asian American parental support for their children’s mental health,
2) The added stigma and shame associated with our Asian American consumers who are challenged by issues of substance use, self-injury, gender and sexual identity,
3) How social media has impacted the sense of shame, stigma, and isolation among our Asian American populations.

The conference brochure is available at http://asianamericanmentalhealth.org

Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
