Event description

Description

Campsfield House is an Immigration Removal (Detention) Centre, six miles from Oxford. It functions as a prison, run for private profit, where detained migrants (incl. refugees and asylum seekers) are held without charge, without time limit, without proper reasons given, and without proper access to legal representation.

For a quarter of a century, detainees have protested about their conditions of imprisonment and for their release and campaigners outside have sought to amplify their voices. There have been regular demonstrations, rooftop protests, hunger strikes, letters to ministers and to the press - and even a solidarity march to London! The campaign has won the support of MPs (local & national), Councillors, prominent academics and public figures and very many local people...

Twenty-five years on, we invite you to share your memories of Campsfield and the campaign, to learn more about immigration detention and, above all, to plan together how we can campaign most effectively for the freedom and human rights of all Campsfield detainees until these walls really do fall…
