Event description

Description

Greetings from Stellenbosch University (SU).

The Development and Alumni Relations Division cordially invites you and a partner to join New York City-based Maties and friends of the University to an event entitled 25 Years of Healing in South Africa, that will coincide with the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

This event will take the form of a conversation between SU’s Prof Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela and Judge Dennis Davis. Together they will reflect on South Africa’s path from apartheid to democracy, healing, and reconciliation, and engage on South Africa’s future. Professor Penelope Andrews of New York Law School will chair the discussion.

Prof Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela holds the Research Chair in Studies in Historical Trauma and Transformation at Stellenbosch University, was a member of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and is author of A Human Being Died That Night: A South African Story of Forgiveness.

Judge Dennis Davis was appointed by former South African President Nelson Mandela to the High Court of Cape Town, is President of the Constitutional Competition Tribunal and author of Lawfare: Judging Politics in South Africa.

This conversation is hosted in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and will give you the opportunity to network with fellow Maties and alumni from UKZN who are also based in NYC and to participate in this significant conversation.
