Event description

Description

The South Carolina African American Heritage Commission celebrates 25 years of achievements on April 5, 2019, at 6:00PM with a Gala. Emerging gospel artist John Lakin and the Band of Worshippers are the featured performers. Internationally renowned playwright and director Charles Randolph-Wright, a native of York, South Carolina is the keynote speaker and former state Senator Maggie Wallace Glover is our mistress of ceremonies. The event is black-tie optional with a reception featuring the culinary offerings of restaurants and caterers, including cookies made by Wally Amos the Cookie Man.

The work of the SCAAH Commission and Foundation range from supporting the installation of more than 300 official South Carolina historical markers; developing a series of teacher’s guides that incorporate African American history into the curriculum of grades K-12; and developing the Green Book of South Carolina, an online travel guide to more than 300 heritage sites.
