The 24EQ Conference presents Glen Gatin...

Being Emotionally Intelligent with Social Media

How does emotional intelligence improve talent management?

Emotionally intelligent people employ a wide variety of strategies as they go about their everyday lives. In my research, (Gatin, 2009) I proposed that people “keep their distance” (KYD) or manage the distance they experience in order to conserve their social, emotional, psychological and physical energies. In doing so they develop and refine a set of emotionally intelligent strategies. As web-based communications and social media become an increasingly important fact of everyday life, people are applying emotional intelligence by incorporating social media practices into their KYD strategies. This session will discuss some of the ways people use social media to manage their interactions in an emotionally intelligent way.

You will learn:

  • Emotionally intelligent people develop strategies to conserve personal energy
  • One strategy that emotionally intelligent people employ is “keeping their distance”
  • People use social media to “keep their distance”
