24 Hours is a project that is planned, run and executed by kids under the age of 21. (if you are over 21 and want to participate you can register as a volunteer) Kids ages 12 to 21 from all over the state of Florida will spend 24 hours simulating being homeless. We sleep in cardboard appliance boxes that you decorate with a homeless theme and bring to the event. We also assemble backpacks to be donated to homeless youth. With over 1.6 million homeless youth in this country we must do something to educate the general public about this issue. This is your chance to stand up and let your voice be heard.
You get community service experience and hours. Most important you have the chance to make new friends, have fun and make a difference doing it.
This will be our 6th year doing the 24 hours event.
We will have community service leaders speaking, leadership games and activities, we will make backpacks for homeless youth, there will be a screening of Little Red Wagon for those that would like to see it, and much more. We will also have a panel of judges that will pick the top three decorated boxes and gift cards will be awarded.
It is also a great way to get those service hours you need for school. You get 12 hours for participating in the event and if you are on the planning committee you receive receive receive hours. (all board members are asked to secure a sponsor)
