General Information
We are pleased to announce that our 22nd Annual Operator's BBQ at the San Xavier Mining Laboratory will be held on Saturday, April 21st from 11 AM to 3 PM.
This is a fun event held every year to bring students, their families and friends, MGE staff and faculty, and industry professionals together. New UA SME officers will be officially appointed, and we will provide an update on chapter activities as we would at a normal SME Tucson dinner meeting.
Tours will be held starting at 11:00, and continuing until 2:30. Due to time and space constraints, a limited number of deep-level tours will be held--please only register for these if you are physically able to climb up and down ladders in tight passages and are not claustrophobic. To register for these, please email Garrett Anderson at andersong3@email.arizona.edu. People aged 13 and up are welcome to register for the deep level tours. For everyone else, adit tours will be running frequently and will not require advanced registration (or ladders)!
This event will showcase current research projects that students are working on, high-tech simulators and a student guest speaker who will provide an update on the expansion of the San Xavier Mine underground workings.
Food options will include hamburgers, bratwursts, hot dogs, and veggie burgers along with sides like potato salad, mac & cheese, etc. Tickets are divided into a few groups, so please try to find the correct one! We will be charging a small fee to cover food costs. Children 16 and under are free! MGE and UA SME merchandise will be available for purchase.
If any companies would like to support this event by bringing equipment, simulators or raffle prizes please contact us.
If you have any additional questions, please contact the Senior Vice President, Garrett Anderson, via email at andersong3@email.arizona.edu or by phone at (520) 647-6915. We look forward to seeing you!
FAQs
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
We have ample parking available at the mine, and we will have people stationed to direct you. Getting to the mine is relatively easy--exit I-19 at Sahuarita Road and head west until the road T-s into Mission Road. Turn right and look for Ocotillo Ranch Road after one mile on the left. Turn left and look for a monument sign on the right with a red and blue gate; this is the SX Mine!
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Contact barbecue organizer Garrett Anderson at andersong3@email.arizona.edu with any questions.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Please bring your printed ticket, as this will save us time vs. looking through a long list.
