Event description
Join professional videographer Jacob Marks to video your performance work and receive raw footage to use for auditions, grants, and more!

About this event

How many times have you made a performance that you’re proud of, only to receive the video and be disappointed?

Too dark, wrong angle, bad focus, heads in the way? Or, there’s an opportunity you’re hoping to apply for, only to discover you don’t have relevant work samples? We’ve been there!

In this workshop, four artists will bring in a short work or excerpt (3-7 minutes) and collaborate with professional videographers to capture it, leaving with high quality footage for auditions, grant and residency applications, festival submissions, and more! Over the course of the session, each artist will have 40 minutes to capture their work (10 minutes of prep time to set up and space their performance + 30 minutes of videoing) in Studio 210. Studio 210 is a black-box style performance space equipped with professional theater lighting and sound equipment, providing the perfect backdrop to capture both wide-angle and close-up footage. The stage space has black curtains on both sides and the back wall, making it the perfect place to create high-quality work samples while intimately capturing the performance.

Prior to arrival, artists will collaborate with workshop leaders Jacob Marks (videographer) and Lydia Feuerhelm (coordinator) to ensure that any technical elements are considered and discussed before-hand. Artists will receive raw, unedited footage via email within a week of the workshop. Space is limited to 4 artists per workshop.

Participants receive:

  • A pre-workshop packet with work sample best practices + guidance for selecting a work sample
  • Raw, unedited, high quality (HD) wide-angle footage of the selected work or excerpt
  • Raw, unedited, high quality (HD) close-up footage of the selected work or excerpt
  • Separate high-quality audio files (if using voice/body sound in performance)

Guidelines for participants:

  • Selected works or excerpts should be 3-7 minutes in length
  • Selected works can have up to 5 performers (email us if you have a larger cast)
  • Lead artists are expected to be present for the entire duration of the workshop; additional performers may come for the video session only; the final workshop schedule will be sent out prior to the workshop
  • All participants must submit a technical specs form along with any pre-recorded sound/music prior to the workshop
  • Artists will be able to choose from 3 lighting “looks” to use during their video session; no additional lighting cues will be available.

Additional Details:

*JANUARY WORKSHOP POSTPONED* New date in February TBA soon.
