Tuesday July 18th, 2017 from 6pm-10pm - Celebrating Courageous Sailing's 30th Anniversary

 

Now in its 21st year, Make-A-Mark is Courageous Sailing's signature summertime gala on Pier 4. It is one of Boston Harbor's best parties of the year and our youth program's most important fundraiser.

Make-A-Mark features cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dancing and great music, while taking in the beautiful skyline from Boston's best waterfront venue. Any and all guests are welcome, even if you are not a sailor. All funds raised through our ticket sales, silent auction, raffle and event sponsorships go directly to support our youth programming and provide scholarships for children who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to learn to sail. 

 

Tickets are now available, so grab a friend (or better yet grab 9 friends!), don your best cocktail attire and come enjoy cocktails and great food from some of our favorites. This year we are excited have amazing food and drink sponsors as well as live music and dancing under the Peterson's Party Center tent.


So come enjoy a wonderful summer party under the lights of the Boston skyline, and thank you for supporting Courageous! Please come dressed in summer cocktail attire.

 

Who will the proceeds benefit?

Courageous Sailing teaches sailing and life skills free of charge to over a thousand of Greater Boston's children. We use sailing instruction to teach key leaderships competencies, personal responsibility, communication, teamwork, problem solving, and stewardship. All proceeds from Make-A-Mark will fund the youth sailing and leadership programs.

Why are additional funds needed? 

While Courageous Sailing will serve around 1,000 children and provide over 30,000 hours of programming in 2017, only one-third of students applying for our Summer Youth Program will be admitted into our program due to limited resources. Additional funding is needed to expand access and to maintain the high quality of our programming and fleet. 

Who will be there?

Members, neighbors, volunteers, parents, young professionals, sailors from throughout the region and anyone who wants to have fun while supporting Courageous Sailing - you and your friends!

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

There is no age limit to enter the event. Drinks are available for guests over the age of 21. Proper identification is required to receive your drink wristband.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Parking is available at the Flagship Wharf parking garage (197 8th Street) for $13 if you arrive after 5pm and depart before midnight and in the Nautica parking garage (88 Constitution Road) for $10 with validation. Vehicles are not allowed to park or make drop-offs on the pier. Click here for a map with directions by car, mass transit, bicycle and foot. We will also be offering free bus rides from Marblehead and Marion. What can/can't I bring to the event?

There is no place to store your personal belongings, so only bring what you will need. There is ample space under the tent, but because this is an outdoor venue, please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.

What if I would like to pay via cash or check?

Please send an email to our office manager, Jacob Breslin, at Jacob@courageoussailing.org detailing your interest in paying with cash or a check. You will then be added to the guest list and receive direction on how to pay. Apologies for any inconvenience. 

 

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Printed tickets are not required for individual ticket purchases.

Group tickets will be distributed by mail prior to the event and should be presented at the check in table when you arrive at the event. 

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds available.

Courageous Sailing - Make-A-Mark Committee

Courageous Sailing was established in 1987 as a 501(c)(3) by the late South Boston sailing enthusiast Harry McDonough. It was Harry’s dream to use sailing to build character and camaraderie among Boston children from all economic and ethnic backgrounds.  For 28 years, we have continued to grow and deliver our mission to transform children’s lives through sailing programs that inspire learning, personal growth and leadership.  In Harry’s words, “Every child's perspective is improved 50-yards off-shore.”

Courageous is now a nationally recognized year-round educational center for community sailing and youth development.  Courageous offers Boston-area youth free and low-cost out-of-school-time programs in sailing, environmental education, job skills development, and leadership training. In 2011 we were honored to be named one of the top 10 community sailing programs nationwide by both US Sailing and Sail Magazine.
