Event Details

Celebrate the coming of a green Spring with culinary instructor Lisa Crawford, an off-grid living guru, and off-grid cooking expert, Tyler Morrison, to learn how to cook with alternative energy from a rocket mass stove. We’ll pay homage to the Emerald Isle and give a nod to St. Patrick's Day by whipping up a beef and northwest micro-brew stout pot pie accompanied by foraged greens with garlic and an Irish apple crumble cake. While we enjoy our meal, Tyler will discuss the ins and outs of rocket mass stoves and how you can create one at home. With meat, gluten, & dairy.

Instructors: Lisa Crawford of The Tiny Kitchen and Tyler Morrison, 21 Acres' Facilities Engineer & Sustainability Educator

Lisa began cooking and baking at a young age. Growing up eating vegetables right from the garden, getting bottled milk from the local dairy, and canning fruit each fall from the orchards of friends, instilled in her the importance of where food comes from. Today she teaches people of all ages how to prepare tasty meals from sincere ingredients. You can find her at 21 Acres, PCC, and at her own place, The Tiny Kitchen (tinykitchenseattle.com).

Tyler likes to describe his work at 21 Acres as “running around and making things go,” for everything from infrastructure to intellects. His work varies daily and ranges from things like building cabinets and window shades to creating and managing sustainable infrastructure, like our composting system and rocket mass heater project. Tyler loves to share his knowledge of practical solutions for sustainable living in the numerous sustainability-focused classes that he writes and teaches. With a B.S. in Ecology and Conservation Biology and over 10 years’ experience working as a biologist in the Olympic and Rocky Mountains, Tyler’s knowledge and expertise cover an eclectic range—including the performance of electrical work on a training boat as well as rattlesnake and wolf tracking.

Registration is required in advance for culinary programs. All proceeds benefit educational programming at 21 Acres and initiatives related to accelerating social change toward more sustainable ways of growing, eating and living that protect the environment while supporting a better quality of life.
