THE MAIN EVENT

Join us for the 20th Annual Nate Chute, the second longest running snowboard banked slalom in the US, and the third longest in North America. It’s a ‘Contest for a Cause’ — the event is a great supporter of suicide prevention among young people in Montana. The cash purse for the event is $4,000 and proceeds help to raise money for a great cause. The overall winners of the Open Men's and Open Women's divisions earn an entry to next year's Mt. Baker Legendary Banked Slalom.
An extra special thanks goes out to Stumptown Snowboards for being fantastic contributors to this long standing event.

Saturday - Day 1 - Banked Slalom

  • Saturday will be a banked slalom through a super fun, hand built banked slalom course in the trees above George's Gorge and continues through it. Best time wins and seeds racers for the Sunday SBX. Each rider takes 2 timed runs, Helmets are mandatory.

Sunday - Day 2 - Boarder Cross

  • Sunday is one of the biggest boarder cross events in the Northwest with 100 riders competing for the title and coolest trophies around. Two to five riders race through a great course consisting of jumps banks rollers and traffic. Helmets are required.

THE CONTEST FOR A CAUSE
This is what sets the Nate Chute apart from other snowboard events. It is a contest for a cause. Here is the lineup of fundraising opprotunities for the Nate Chute Foundation, a local non-profit corporation that is dedicated to suicide prevention among young people in Montana. A schedule will be assembled and posted here for all of the fundraising and community opportunities.

This Contest for a Cause raises money for the Nate Chute Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to suicide prevention in western Montana. Competitors are encouraged to sign up for the Crowdrise campaign to raise funds for the NCF. Competitors who raise $300 or more will have their entry fee reimbursed at registration on March 16th. Contest pre-registration is required regardless of Crowdrise participation.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER I REGISTER?

  • Please double check your entry, make sure it is right. Eventbrite will send you a confirmation/receipt. Please contact events@skiwhitefish.com if any changes are needed.
  • You can register for either day or both days. If you do register for SBX only you will be seeded at the bottom of your category. SBX seeds are based off Banked Slalom results.
  • Riders found poaching the banked slalom course or the Gorge prior to the event will not be allowed to compete. We will have staff working on the course for a couple of weeks before the event. Please stay off the course. Seriously… No, Really.
  • Shirts and or hoodies are available on a first come, first serve basis. The first to register are the first to get hooked up.
  • Hot Dogs and snacks provided by Skiers and Snowboarders for Christ. Saturday at the finish, Sunday at the start.

WHAT SHOULD I DO ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT?

  • Check in on Time - Stop by the Ticket Shack by the bottom of Chair 2 to pick up your bib, confirm your start, get some red bull, some stickers, and be an awesome competitor. Park where you are supposed to, or move once you have checked in.
  • Each morning may only allow for one run inspection, depending on conditions. Inspection laps will be broken down by class - Open, Ams, Groms.
  • Be present at the competitor meeting at 10 am at race start.
  • The Banked Slalom is best of two runs. If you miss a gate on your first run, you can still win. We will have course marshalls/gate judges along the course and the course will be marked with blue dye prior to the race.
  • The Boardercross is seeded based on your banked slalom time. Each heat will consist of 3-5 riders. Top two riders advance to next round. If you do not advance you are entered in a 'Last Chance Qualifier'. In the LCQ, you can still win the division, but if you finish outside of the first two you are eliminated.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER THE RACE?

  • Sunday - The Lap for the Lost. One of the coolest moments in snowboarding. Top of the mountain at 4:00 pm. Awards begins 5:15 pm. There will be a raffle for some of the larger ticket prizes, Sunday will consist of SBX awards and overall awards as well as the big ticket raffle and season pass drawing as well as recognition from the NC Foundation.

SPECTATORS
These events are located on the backside of the mountain to take advantage of George’s Gorge a super cool natural feature that serves as a natural halfpipe over 1/3 mile long. That makes the course accessible only by skier/boarder traffic. No foot traffic allowed on Chair One so you must be able to transport yourself.

The Saturday Banked Slalom begins near the bottom of Goat Haunt and continues through George's Gorge. Some of the best viewing is from chair 7.
The Sunday Boarder Cross is best viewed from alongside the race course located on Goat Haunt.

VOLUNTEERS
We need help! We are looking for intermediate skiers/snowboarders who would like to earn a lift ticket for the day you help and for another day within the next year! We need help course marshalling on the day of the races, but also building the banked slalom course alongside our events crew. If you would like to help, please contact us at events@skiwhitefish.com or 406.862.2910
