The Alumni Association of Lincoln University (AALU), Philadelphia Chapter presents its' 20th Annual Dr. Frank "Tick" Coleman Awards Luncheon, Saturday, April 8, 2023 from 12 noon ~ 4pm at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania (Delaware County).

Join us as we celebrate a monumental year with our signature fundraising event. This "Orange Tie" Day Gala supports the scholarship efforts presented through our Archie Goodwin, Jr. Financial Aid Grant. The grant is used to meet the financial needs of eligible, incoming freshmen/matriculating undergraduate students, from the Philadelphia area, who require assistance in purchasing books and or technology for the semester or year.

Each year, the AALU Philadelphia Chapter, hosts the awards event to honor the memory and dedication of esteemed LU Alum and Philadelphia native, Dr. Frank "Tick" Coleman. Dr. Coleman, affectionately known as "Tick", was a graduate of Lincoln University's Class of 1935. He was a premier advocate who dedicated more than 50 years of his life and work to his Alma Mater, Lincoln University and his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi (Beta Chapter). Dr. Tick Coleman was a drum major for all that is great about Lincoln. He was an decorated athlete, a mentor, and an administrator who cared deeply for young people. He did whatever he could to help with the needs of students, including self financing scholarships and organizing bus services from Lincoln's rural Chester County campus to Philadelphia. Dr. Tick Coleman was the 1st black quarterback for Central High School, he was one of the 1st black Eagle Scouts with a service award named in his honor, as well as a top swim instructor the one of the first black YMCA's the Christian Street Y. Finally, in honor of all of the accomplishments that Dr. Coleman made a street was named in his honor in the South Philadelphia Area where he lived. September 2022, Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson along with members of Dr. Coleman's family presented the 2100 block of Earp Street as Dr. Frank "Tick" Coleman Way (photo courtesy of the Philadelphia Tribune below).

Dr. Coleman served his community and Lincoln with passion and pride. Using his character as inspiration, the AALU established this annual scholarship event to raise funds as a financial aid resource for needy students and to honor other outstanding Lincoln Alumni who exemplify the attributes of Dr. Coleman. These Alumni Awardees have been nominated by their peers, as having demonstrated excellence in their careers, in their communities and or in service to the University.

The "Orange Tie" Gala will feature: Alumni Awards, Vendor Marketplace shopping, musical entertainment, Student highlights, a keynote speaker, door prizes, and more!
