Renowned local and national breast health experts will share the latest advancements in research, treatment and care in a supportive and inspiring environment. The day includes opportunities to connect with others and discover practical tools and resources for dealing with the challenges of surviving and living with breast cancer. The conference is designed to be relevant to anyone whose life may be affected by breast cancer – newly diagnosed, in treatment, survivors, caregivers, family members and health care professionals.

2021 CONFERENCE FEATURED SPEAKERS

Tufia C. Haddad, MD – Dr. Haddad is a medical oncologist with a clinical and research interest in breast cancer. She is Chair of the Breast Medical Oncology practice at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Her research focuses on experimental therapeutics and early-phase clinical trials for drug-resistant breast cancer. Through her partnership with scientists, she helps bring the most promising drugs from lab to clinic and aims to identify biomarkers to more rapidly advance drug development. Dr. Haddad has a focus on the evaluation of new targeted treatments for drug-resistant breast cancer and the transformation of breast cancer survivor care with technology-enabled solutions. She was recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Minnesota Monthly 2015-2017.

Keith L. Knutson, PhD – Dr. Knutson is internationally recognized in the field of cancer immunology. A Professor of Immunology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, he is also director of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center’s Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Program. Keith currently has three FDA-approved vaccine trials underway and is a Principal Investigator of 3 grants to test vaccines aimed at preventing the recurrence of breast cancer, including triple negative breast cancer for which there are no targeted therapies.

Mark R. Migliori, MD, FACS – Dr. Migliori received his M.D. from Brown University in Providence, RI and completed his internship and residencies in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the University of Minnesota Hospital. His practice at MMK Plastic Surgery is focused on breast reconstructive surgery, helping women preserve their dignity during a time of fear of vulnerability. In addition to being a gifted surgeon, Dr. Migliori is a talented musician who performs with his trio, The Remnants, to raise funds for BCEA and other organizations. His individual example of excellence, generosity, leadership and compassion has earned him the respect of breast cancer survivors, their loved ones and the greater Twin Cities community.

Gregory A. Plotnikoff, MD, MTS, FACP – Dr. Plotnikoff is the founder and Medical Director of Minnesota Personalized Medicine, a micro-practice dedicated to serving patients suffering from complex, severe and mysterious illness. He is a board-certified internist and pediatrician who has received national and international honors for his work in cross-cultural and integrative medicine. A graduate of Carleton College, Harvard Divinity School and the University of Minnesota Medical School, Greg has advanced training in medical acupuncture, Kampo (traditional Japanese herbal medicine), hospital chaplaincy and mind-body medicine. He helped establish the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota where he served as its first medical director.

Douglas Yee, MD – Dr. Yee has been the director of the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota since 2007. A professor of medicine and pharmacology, he maintains an active clinical practice in the medical management of breast cancer and serves as the site principal investigator on several clinical trials. His laboratory research is focused on the regulation of cancer cells by the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and insulin. Dr. Yee has published more than 150 papers, primarily focused on breast cancer, and was recognized as a “Top Doctor” in Mpls. St. Paul Magazine (2012-2015, 2020) and “Best Doctors for Women” Minnesota Monthly Magazine (2011, 2014).

Survivors, families and friends are learning to live as fully as possible with breast cancer as they bravely explore treatment options, incorporate emotional and lifestyle changes and try to prevent the disease. Our conference brings the community's best medical and therapeutic breast health experts together with anyone concerned about breast cancer for a day of learning on how to live as fully as possible when breast cancer touches your life. More and more women and men too, at a younger and younger age are diagnosed annually with breast cancer. Through education one can not only survive this disease but also live courageously, creatively and with grace. Our program crosses all boundaries and supports a broad range of healing philosophies and possibilities. We want to open doors and make access to knowledge easy for you. There is no other program like it in the Twin Cities.
