Description

Beat the Odds will take place at the Saratoga Springs City Center, on Wednesday August 7th. Check-in and a light buffet breakfast begin at 8am, with the morning program commencing at 9am and ending at 12noon. Featured speakers include the first annual Cynthia Shenker speaker, Steven Nagel, MD.

Dr. Nagel, Surgical Oncologist, Medical Officer, Division of Surgical Devices and Drug Safety Effectiveness at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and a member of the division of Surgical Oncology at Howard University College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, will address some of the critical issues around post-mastectomy breast implants, including the importance of informed consent when deciding whether to get or keep implants, potential complications and breast implant illness, as well as the FDA process for approving medical devices such as implants.

Andrew Warheit, MD.,Diagnostic Radiologist and Medical Director for the Breast Center at St. Peter's Hospital will speak on the topic and importance of regular breast cancer screening for those with implants, including the types of screenings and their effectiveness with implants.

Presentations will be followed by a panel Q and A discussion at which time, Dr. Nagel and Dr. Warheit will be joined by Danielle Krol, MD, Breast Oncologist and Medical Officer, Office of Hematology and Oncology Products at the US Food and Drug Administration.

Breast cancer patients and survivors, adult family members, friends, caregivers, and healthcare professionals are welcome to attend. The program is offered free of charge, but registration is required and space is limited.
