Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE) is a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization that engages young people to amplify their voices and organize for human rights change through visual arts.

On Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 12:00-3:00 pm ET, ARTE will host our 2023 Visions of Justice Fundraiser: Creativity Rules Everything Around Me. RSVP for our first in-person fundraiser since 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop and ARTE's youth engagement, art education, and human rights work. We’ll come together at The Bronx Brewery (856 E 136th St, The Bronx, NY 10454) to:

  • Enjoy live art created by a special guest artist,
  • Dance to the sound of a live DJ;
  • Engage in human rights and arts-related games;
  • Enjoy delicious drinks and snacks;
  • Share in the other surprises that await!

We believe that joy, community, and justice are intertwined. 50 years ago, hip hop was born of these practices, and today, we continue that legacy by creating opportunities for youth to engage in art-making and human rights work. In addition to celebrating this anniversary, we will also honor the recipient of the fourth annual Visions of Justice Award. This special award honors a woman of color who has made significant contributions to their community through the visual arts, and this year, we will be celebrating a woman graffiti artist in honor of hip hop's 50th anniversary!

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support ARTE’s work. Since its inception, ARTE has engaged over 10,000 community members in its art-based, human rights pedagogy, including youth, teachers, artists, and activists, and created several community-based mural projects in four boroughs across New York City. For more information about ARTE, please visit our website or check out our 2021 annual report here.

We are offering two different ticket options:

  • $45.00: The Activist
  • $200.00: The Collective (A set of 5 discounted tickets to share with friends, family, coworkers, etc. If you select this ticket option, each of the 5 individuals in your group will receive a free ARTE button!)

COVID Safety: Masks are optional, but we encourage you to do what's best for you, care for each other, and take a rapid test before you attend. Although we'd love to see you, if you're sick—or think you may be sick—please stay home to help us protect the most at risk in our communities. We will keep you posted on future gatherings!

Lastly, even if you are unable to attend, please consider making a donation to our annual campaign to support our important work. You can make a donation in any amount under this ticket. If you wish to donate a different amount over $100, you can do so there and we'll send you the link to your ticket. Help us raise $25,000 by 2/11/2023. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
