About this event
The Peace, Conflict, and Justice (PCJ) Student Conference is an annual event that brings together the PCJ community outside of the classroom. It provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about pertinent global issues from leading scholars and activists. An entirely student- led operation, the conference is a flagship event in the extracurricular life of students in the PCJ program.
The theme of this year’s Student Conference is “The Oppression of Identity: Minorities and the Right to Self-Determination.” While we understand that identity is a multifaceted concept, our intentions for this Conference are to investigate the role identity plays in precipitating oppression, and its effect on the three pillars of our program. (PCJ).
The other main component of our theme is that of Self-Determination, which we define as the ultimate goal of oppressed individuals. Self-expression, merit, political agency, and the desire for recognition in society all fall under the term’s reach. We plan to use our forums to look at cases of self-advocacy that appropriately look at both pending and resolved examples of Self-Determination
