Juneteenth Village Fest will feature musical performances by Angie Stone, Talib Kweli, Marsha Ambrosius, Kindred and the Family Soul, and BJ The Chicago Kid. Attendees can also enjoy local performers, food vendors, community-based organizations and resources, a Ferris wheel and other carnival rides, and activities for all ages.
Juneteenth Village Fest will provide a space for the ITAV Family of Schools, partner organizations, and the broader community to commemorate the liberation of African descendants from the institution of slavery. Thousands of guests will be inspired to reflect upon the profound legacy and ancestral roots of African Americans as programming highlights the resilience, solidarity, culture, and progress of Black communities.
Juneteenth Village Fest will be held within the Anna & Frederick Douglass Park ~ A powerful space with great meaning to our Village Leadership Academy students who are responsible for the renaming of the park. The inspiring work of the students has been highlighted in a documentary, “Change the Name,” which aired on BET, has been shown at film festivals across the country, and is currently being used in Chicago schools as a model to inspire youth activism and civic engagement. More information on how our Village Leadership Academy students renamed Douglass Park through Grassroots Campaigns efforts can be found here.
