On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the FPRA Orlando Area Chapter will host a second 2023 Image Awards workshop where guest speakers will walk you through how to craft an award-winning submission.

Guest speakers will include Despina McLaughlin, APR, Senior Public Relations Officer at Orange County Government and Doreen Overstreet, APR, Public Safety Information & Education Officer at the Seminole County Fire Department.

About Despina McLaughlin, APR:

Despina McLaughlin serves as Senior Public Information Officer to Mayor Jerry Demings under the Orange County Government Office of Communications. She is an accredited, award-winning Public Relations practitioner who assisted in orchestrating and disseminating key messaging relating to COVID-19 response, vaccinations, the penny sales tax for transportation and most recently the Mayor’s 12th Annual Toy Drive. Prior to joining the County in 2019, Despina spent 10 years as a local sports reporter and anchor for Spectrum News 13. The UCF graduate continues to freelance as a play-by-play broadcaster for FIBA & ESPN+, making history in 2021, a part of the first all-female broadcast team to call the Women’s AmeriCup in Puerto Rico and Women’s Asia Cup in Amman, Jordan. In October 2022, she made her ESPN debut calling the Women’s FIBA World Cup Championships in Sydney, Australia. Despina is a loyal community volunteer and is the acting President for the City District Main Street.

About Doreen Overstreet, APR:

Doreen Overstreet, APR, serves as the Public Safety Information & Education Officer at the Seminole County Fire Department. Prior to the role in Public Safety, she served as the Assistant Manager of Digital Communications and Public Information Officer at Orange County Government for nearly five years. In addition, she worked at Costa Communications Group, a full-service PR & marketing firm, for more than a decade. At Costa, she worked on numerous local, state and national awards and was instrumental in writing and/or putting together dozens of awards. She is a Grand All Image Award winner from FPRA and has won many FPRA Image Awards. She believes that awards help you hone your skills as a professional and are instrumental in helping showcase PR’s value to an organization.
