About this event
The TABCO / ESPBC Minority Affairs Committee is hosting an event for Educators, Administrators, and Educational Leaders.
The 2023 Black Lives Matter at School Culturally Responsive Symposium S.L.A.M. (Leaders, and Mentors) is a great opportunity for you to enhance your pedagogical practices by engaging in workshops that address:
- Culturally Responsive/Relevant Pedagogy
- Finding Your Identity
- What is Critical Race Theory?
- Impact of Generational Wealth
Registration is required to attend this event and is open through February 1, 2023.
During registration you will be asked if you would like to participate in our Curriculum Slam at the conclusion of the Symposium.
A Slam is an open microphone opportunity for members of the community to briefly share their skills, expertise, and experience and pass the microphone to the next person. We are looking for stakeholders to share their own critical and diverse culturally relevant work that is happening in BCPS.
We are looking for the best and brightest examples of culturally relevant pedagogies that exist in and around Baltimore County Public Schools. Participants are asked to share a brief presentation, performance, or explanation of how culturally relevant pedagogy and practices show up in your school. For example, it could be a student leadership group sharing about their most recent project like Black Excellence or Boys in the Good, an educator sharing a dynamic lesson plan, or an administrator/school leader sharing their vision for their school. Local politicians, board members, and news outlets will be invited to attend. We want to acknowledge, learn, and celebrate the wonderful minds that make up Team BCPS.
