About this event
MOBILIZE, ITDP, and the Sustainable Transport Award Committee invite you to join us as we celebrate three cities that are transforming their streets, prioritizing sustainability, and expanding access and mobility for all residents.
Over the past two years of the pandemic, cities have come to terms with a new normal that has changed every facet of life, including residents’ mobility. Despite the challenges, the cities nominated for this year’s sustainable transport award have proven that remarkable things are possible with strong political will, public support and participation, dogged implementation, and great vision.
Our first honorable mention Tartu, Estonia transformed a main boulevard into a car-free public space, turning a month-long pilot into an annual event reclaiming streets for its residents. Peshawar, Pakistan received our second honorable mention for their new gold-standard BRT system that cuts through emissions and travel times, while providing dedicated access for women and passengers with disabilities. Finally, this year’s winner, Bogotá, Colombia, rapidly expanded its cycle network, quadrupling ridership on the city’s main roads—just one of many exciting and innovative projects that put residents first, especially the most vulnerable, earning the city its second sustainable transport award.
Tune in to the ceremony on February 9th, 2022, at 2 PM EST, as representatives from Tartu, Peshawar, and Bogotá receive recognition for their city’s progress and leadership in sustainable transportation. We’ll also feature speakers from our STA Committee members, Chilean Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Gloria Hutt, ITDP Chief Executive Officer Heather Thompson, and more.
