2022 Joint Dakota Cadet Leadership Encampment

About this event

The Basic Encampment is a foundational experience for Civil Air Patrol Cadets, and is the gateway to future progression and activities in CAP.  The Basic Encampment is a pre-requisite for the Billy Mitchell milestone award and promotion to Cadet officer. It is also required for all National Cadet Special Activities (NCSAs) and many other valuable training experiences.  According to CAP's Cadet Program Management regulation (CAPR 52-16), "Encampment can be the most significant and worthwhile training experience of a CAP cadet’s membership. Training is what the encampment is all about."  The Joint Dakota 2020 Encampment will embody the letter and spirit of this intention.

Going to encampment is a lot like attending USAF Basic Training.  It will be physically and mentally challenging.  The mission of the training staff will be to teach and mentor the first-time attendees, but also to push them to always do their very best.

Planned activities include the obstacle course and repelling tower, helicopter rides and other aviation related events, the firearms training simulator, and numerous team building, problem-solving, and leadership challenges.

Applications and packing lists are available here.  We hope to host cadets from several states.  If you need assistance or advice, e-mail Lt. Col. Dean Reiter, Encampment Commander, at dean.reiter@ndcap.us.

The application packet (CAPF 60-81 and Supplements) must be sent to:

PO Box 608

Bismarck, ND  58502-0608

Pay special attention to the Packing List.  Begin preparing and collecting what you need EARLY.  You will not be able to procure items at Camp Grafton.

The deadline for Training Staff arrival is 1300 hours on 25 June.  Do not arrive before noon on 25 June.

The deadline for General Attendee arrival is 1500 hours on 25 June.

It looks like we will have an outstanding cadet and senior training staff this year.  This should make for a premier experience that you will not want to miss.  The role of the training staff will be to teach and mentor the first-time attendees, but also to push them constantly to do their very best.

We look forward to another year of cadets graduating from the Basic Encampment and then exceling through the rest of their individual CAP Cadet careers.  We are also excited about seeing many old friends there and making many more new ones.

Regarding Payment:

If you have any problems making payment through PayPal, please e-mail my Wing Administrative Officer at  da@ndcap.us  and he will try to assist.  Otherwise, your check or money order should remain attached to the application packet sent to the Encampment Commander.

If you plan to apply for the Cadet Encampment Assistance Program (CEAP), follow the instructions here and select the "Cadet CEAP Application Pending" ticket type above.  CEAP applications open 1 March and close 30 days before the start of the encampment (25 May).

All payments and packets must be received no later than Friday, 17 June.

No payments will be accepted at Encampment in-processing.
