A new tool in the toolbox: an update on biological control of introduced Phragmites

About this event

In the first webinar of the Great Lakes Phragmites Collaborative's 2022 webinar series, Dr. Michael McTavish, a postdoc as the University of Toronto, shares a research update on the use of stem-boring moths as a biocontrol method for invasive Phragmites management.

Presentation Description: Biological control or “biocontrol” of introduced Phragmites offers a self-sustaining, target-specific, and cost-effective tool to supplement existing management options. Since 2019, a pilot program has been developing in Ontario, Canada using the stem-boring moths Archanara neurica and Lenisa geminipuncta. This presentation will provide an update on the pilot program and explore priorities for future research.
