Franklin County 4-H is excited to offer hands-on Sizzling Summer Sessions with face-to-face opportunities for youth ages 5 & up this summer!
About this event
Join us for Sizzling Summer Sessions 2022 where we offer face-to-face opportunities for youth ages 5-18 to actively create lasting summer memories through engaging fun and hands-on activities. Camp times may vary.

Additional information:
-The location of the camps will be held at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Center. If the camp takes place at another location, transportation is provided but will still meet at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office.
-Youth must be enrolled in 4-H Online to sign up (Link to 4-H Online 2.0: https://v2.4honline.com/). You MUST register as a 4-H Member not participant in order for your registration to be considered complete.
-Each camper is encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle.
-Each program will provide water and snacks.
-Masks are not required at this time, but may change as updates from CDC and local health department are shared.
-Social distancing and other COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed.
- Youth must be at least 5 years old as of Jan 1, 2022 to participate in 4-H.
CAMPS
Exploring NC State Parks-Week 1:June 13th, 15th and 16th
Times: Varies-please see description
Ages: 8 and Up
Week 1 of exploring NC State Parks will consist of visits to Carvers Creek, Lake Waccamaw, and Hammocks Beach State Parks. Keep in mind that there will be a variety of physical activity including hiking for a couple miles at each park. In addition to hiking some of the activities that we will do include a mussels program, tour the Rockefeller grounds, and have a ferry ride. Some of the parks are a bit of a drive so be prepared for the van ride. We will meet at the Extension office at 8:30am on 13th, 7:30am on 15th, and 7:30am on 16th. Arrival back to office will be shared later but do not see past 6pm as a return time. Please bring a bag lunch each day, reusable water bottle, sunscreen, change of clothes (just in case) and shoes that can get a little wet. Please bring closed toed and comfortable shoes for hiking.
Exploring NC State Parks-Week 2: June 20th, 22nd, and 24th

Week 2 of exploring NC State Parks will consist of visits to Merchants Millpond, Goose Creek, and Falls Lake State Parks. Keep in mind that there will be a variety of physical activity including hiking for a couple miles at each park. In addition to hiking some of the activities that we will do include a canoe program , boardwalk exploration, netting, fishing, and microscope experiments. We will meet at the Extension office at 8am on 20th, 8am on 22nd, and 9am on 24th. Arrival back to office will be shared later but do not see past 6pm as a return time. Please bring a bag lunch each day, reusable water bottle, sunscreen, change of clothes (just in case) and shoes that can get a little wet. Please bring closed toed and comfortable shoes for hiking.
June 27th-30th: Cooking with Emotions
Time: 9am-12:30pm
Ages: 5 to 12
Youth will learn their way around the kitchen this week as they prepare and cook. You will cook simple kid friendly foods while learning how to manage natural emotions that we feel as human beings during social emotional lessons. Youth will also explore some gardening projects.
July 5th: Cloverbuds Bug Out Day
Time: 9am-2:00pm
Ages: 5 to 8
Do you love bugs, butterflies, and insects? Join us for a full day of all kinds of activities about bugs, spiders, butterflies, and insects. Some activities will include making our own backyard bug snacks, Bug-I-Spy bags, fingerprint bugs, and so much much. Bring a bag lunch.
July 6th-7th: Bees & Beyond
Time: 9am-3pm
Ages: 9 and up
Come out to learn more about the importance of bees and the products bees give us. Youth will get to work with expert beekeepers and visit a local apiary (beehives). Youth will have the opportunity to suit up like beekeepers as well. Please bring a bag lunch each day.
July 12th-14th: Cloverbuds Science Camp
Time: 9am-12:30pm
Ages: 5 to 8
Looking for some experiments to do during the summer months? Come join us for lots of fun hands-on science experiments that will blow your mind and may make you ask questions. You may even learn a little during the summer! We will be doing floating ink, swimming fish, invisible messages, paper towel art, static electricity, and so much more. We will also be making some of our snacks from science.
July 21st-22nd: Expressive Arts
Time: 9am-12:00pm
Ages: 9 and up
Expressive Arts camp will include making a journal/sketch book from scratch, DIY scratchboards, guided painting lesson to make a summer themed door hanger and much more! Size of hanger is 14". Class includes cut out, hanger, ribbon and all art supplies.
July 22nd: Cloverbuds Expressive Arts
Time: 1:00pm-3:30pm
Ages: 5 to 8
Join us for an afternoon of painting. Youth will get a chance to paint a summer themed door hanger with a guided paint instructor. Size of hanger is 14". Class includes cut out, hanger, ribbon and all art supplies.
July 26th-28th: Makers' Space
Time: 9am-12:30pm
Ages:5 to 12
Three days packed with youth using their imagination and creativity to build, create, and put to use challenges by using an assortment of materials given some direction. Some challenges may include building challenges, up-cycle challenges, design challenges and using brain flakes, dominos and pattern blocks to do challenges. Be sure to bring your creativity with you! This is by far one of the most fun camps loved by youth!
