November 6, 2021: THE 3 B's... and BEYOND!
Bach, Beethoven and Brahms are rock stars in the musical firmament, and we pay tribute to their genius with performances of Little Fugue in G Minor (Bach) Overture to the Creatures of Prometheus (Beethoven) with guest conductor Craig Purdy, and Hungarian Dance No. 5 (Brahms). But the B's don't stop there - Bernstein and the Bartok are also on the program, along with Marquez's lively Danzon No. 2 led by guest conductor Marcellus Brown, plus a few more musical bon-bons, including Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major, Movement 1, performed by Young Artist Competition winner Benjamin Gallafent.
December 18, 2021: MERRY, MERRY MERIDIAN
Take a break from the hustle and bustle with music that celebrates the wonder and joy of the season. From traditional holiday favorites to The Polar Express, Sleigh Ride and A Christmas Overture, this concert will warm the hearts no matter the frosty temperatures outside. Young Artist Competition winner Zachary Cheng is on the program, performing the First Movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto in C Major.
March 5, 2022: JUST FOR STARTERS
First bites are often the most delectable, and such is the case with this concert featuring some of the world’s most beloved overtures, the pieces that open a musical, opera or other larger work. Gershwin’s Overture to Girl Crazy, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Sullivan’s Overture to HMS Pinafore and Bernstein’s Overture to West Side Story are all on the program. In addition, Young Artists Competition winner Truman Walker performs Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concert No. 2, Movement 1 with the orchestra.
April 30, 2022: PLACES NEAR AND FAR
Finland, Spain, France and England are among the musical destinations we explore in evocative compositions by a number of favorite composers. Sibelius’s Finlandia, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, Gershwin’s An American In Paris and Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite are featured, along with pieces by Eduard Strauss and others. Young Artists Competition winners Julie Erway, violin, and Christian Nielsen, piano, are also on the program, performing pieces by Saint-Saens and Rachmaninoff with the orchestra.
All concerts listed above are at 7:30 p.m. at the Centennial High School Performing Arts Center, 12400 W. McMillan Road, Boise ID
