About this Event

Institute Overview

The Nueva Design Thinking Institute (DTI) is our annual summer institute dedicated to sharing design thinking practices and processes with other educators.

We welcome all educators interested in incorporating design thinking, or aspects of design thinking, into their teaching practice as well as those who are already using design thinking and want to further deepen their practice. Participants will gain and deepen their understanding of how to create design thinking curricula that foster creative and innovative problem solving skills.

Space is limited so please register all group members at the same time. If purchasing tickets for multiple participants, kindly note that you are able to add/edit their names once your purchase is complete. We ask that each attendee complete the registration form as it inquires about food allergies and accommodations, emergency contact, etc.

For further details about DTI, the Innovation Lab, the Nueva School, and/or our team, please visit our website, email us at designthinking@nuevaschool.org.

Optional June 25 Add-on Workshop: "Design the Impossible: Using Liberatory Design to Create More Equitable Systems"

This add-on workshop, open to participants of either the Design Thinking Institute or the Equity and Inclusion Institute, will introduce liberatory design as a means to create transformational change.

We believe that many core issues of inequity are about access to power—where you live, where you learn, whom you love, and the color of your skin all inform how much access you have to power. You will begin to develop "power literacy" by using systems thinking to better understand how power functions in our society.

Through brainstorming and hands-on practice, we will utilize liberatory design practices and mindsets to consider how to redesign more equitable systems to redistribute power in schools, communities, and the nation. Our work will be fundamentally grounded in a mindset of joy, optimism, and liberation as we firmly believe that we must embody the world we seek to create.

Financial assistance awards are available for educators who do not have access to adequate professional development funds. Please email institutes@nuevaschool.org to inquire about the process to apply for these awards.
