2021 Teotihuacan Pilgrimage in Mexico: The Two-Spirit's Path to Ecstatic Wholeness!

About this Event

Join us on this magnificent journey to the heart of the ancient Toltec civilization, Teotihuacan, for an initiation into the Two-Spirit's Path to Ecstatic Wholeness! For thousands of years, the Toltecs have honored and cultivated the sacred gifts and traditions of the Two-Spirits, sending us out across the world. Two-Spirits -- those of us who who integrate male and female, light and darkness, immanence and transcendence in our own being --have served as bridge-people, shamans, scouts, storytellers, artists, healers, mediators and diplomats, welcoming, nurturing, protecting and empowering all that is true and beautiful and free -- and the time has come for us to walk in their footsteps. In many indigenous cultures we were recognized as children, and our gifts were cultivated over the course of a lifetime. In modern times, we might be called gender-fluid, gender-creative, or transgender -- but our sacred calling doesn't end there! Our calling is to embrace, integrate, and harmonize the polarities within ourselves, and then  lead the world in the crucial task of creating cultures of respect, appreciation, and co-creation. On this sacred pilgrimage, we will step up to that calling, heal the wounds of growing up in a world that separates, silences, and suppresses the sacred gifts of the Two-Spirit, reclaim our gifts, and commit ourselves to sharing our gift with the world! As we journey through the ancient Toltec pyramid city of Teotihaucan, we will explore the four stages in the Two-Spirited Path of Ecstatic Wholeness:

  1. Becoming Whole: In this stage, we embrace all the dualities of our being — not just the masculine and the feminine, but our light and our darkness, our strength and our weakness, our clarity and our unknowing. Whether we call this tikkun olam, soul retrieval, nigredo, shadow work, or simply healing, this is the work of becoming whole.
  2. Becoming True: In this stage, we integrate and organize the whole of our being around the deepest truth in the heart of our hearts, centering around that truth. Whether we see the soul as a spark, a seed, or a mirror for the infinite, this is the great work, the disciplined and devoted effort we bring to the spiritual path of by cultivating the four R's: Repentence, Remembrance, Reorientation, and Relationship.
  3. Becoming Fire: In this stage, effort has played its part, doing has come to an end, and it is time for us to surrender to the lightning strike of grace, letting our whole being be consumed in the fires of love. This is the Sacred Marriage, the all-consuming flash of searing lightning, and we are consumed in the bliss of union as love, lover and beloved unite as one.
  4. Becoming Light: In this stage, it is not we who act, but the Holy One, in an effortless flow of non-doing, the sheer movement of intent. Make no mistake, though; to whatever degree we have not fully surrendered into the fire, the work of surrender continues! How will we share in the great work of God/dess sharing itself in creative and loving generosity?

As we explore the Two-Spirit Mysteries we will also draw on the  Five Arts of the Spiritual Warrior,  crystalized through over 20 years of apprenticeship, practice, and teaching the in the Universal Toltec Spiritual Tradition. They are: The Art of Cultivating Practical Self-Love, The Art of Freeing Your Wisdom Mind, The Art of Growing Your True Power, The Art of Surrendering into Peace, and The Art of Rediscovering Real Presence.  You will also be introduced to the ancient toltec practices of the Obsidian Mirror, Toltec Breathwork, Stalking, Not-Doing, Controlled Folly, The Warrior’s Dance, Remembering Death, and Luminous Dreaming — a practical toolkit for transforming our lives and renewing our world! Our guide on this journey will be Teotihuacan itself -- one of the greatest artistic, architectural, scientific, psychological and spiritual masterpieces of the ancient word, and the living library of the ancient Toltec Masters.  I visited Teo many times over the years with my early teachers, including Don Miguel Ruiz, author of "The Four Agreeements," until the place itself began to sing to me and through me as a powerful stream of wisdom and love that I call the Art of the Universal Toltec. That stream led me through many other traditions over the years, weaving them together with the Toltec tradition in a great tapestry of human possibility and tremendous hope, that we can dream a new world one life at a time. Each morning after breakfast, we will spend several hours exploring the site of Teotihuacan and sharing sacred ceremony, then return to the hotel in time for a late lunch. Every afternoon of our journey includes free time for building lasting friendships, journaling and deep personal reflection, celebration, shopping, sightseeing, and pampering. We will gather in the evenings for dinner, teaching, sharing, breathing, movement and dreaming practices. Our home in Mexico is the beautiful Dreaming House, located on ancient temple grounds, and now a private sanctuary for Toltec teachers and their groups during sacred pilgrimages to Teotihuacan.  Family meals of delicious country Mexican food are freshly prepared with skill and love.  Here, miracles seem normal, and are -- it's a magical place for a magical time! Our Journey together will feature a few extra-special opportunities: a day trip to the sacred healing springs of Tolontongo; a brief stop on our last day to the pilgrimage to the Basilica de Guadalupe, the ancient home of the Divine Mother of the Americas and a powerful initiatory site in its own right; and a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Our Lady of Candelaria, the protector and guide of Contemplative Mystics, at the Dreaming House in Teotihuacan. Depending on weather and availability, side-trips may be available to take a balloon ride over the pyramids for an additional fee! If you are interested, please express your interest in our registration questionnaire!
