The Council annually honors women who have made significant contributions as well as demonstrated their support of other women.

About this event

Each year the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council and the Burlington County Board of County Commissioners host an Awards Reception honoring women who have made a difference in the Burlington County community. The Council annually honors women who have made significant contributions as well as demonstrated their support of other women. They may have acted as mentors, role models, or advocates for other women.

This year, nominees will be recognized in the following categories: Mentorship, Volunteerism, Law/Law Enforcement, Education, Community Service, Corporate Leadership, Diversity/Inclusion, Healthcare, First Responder, Government and Frontline Worker.

The Council is also presenting scholarships to three outstanding 12th grade female students from Burlington County. The scholarships will include the Alice Paul Champion Award, the Celeste Arties Memorial Award and the Elizabeth Coleman White STEM Award. The Council is pleased to be awarding three Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to each award recipient.

This year’s honorees are:

Volunteerism: Fozia Janjua, Mount Laurel resident and founder of Community South Jersey and Philadelphia (Community SJP)

Mentorship: Helen Barsocchi, Medford resident and board member/coach for United Girls’ Softball Association

Law Enforcement: Officer Sally Landrum, Willingboro Police Community Engagement Officer

Health Care: Holly Funkhouser Cucuzzella, Burlington County Health Officer

Government: Carol Murphy, New Jersey Assemblywoman

Front Line Hero: Phyllis Worrell, Healthcare Coordinator for Burlington County OEM and Emergency Management Coordinator for Virtua Health

First Responder: Lori Engler, Bordentown EMT/Firefighter

Education: Amanda Cassel, Assistant Principal and Supervisor of Instruction at Lenape High School

Diversity and Inclusion: Saima Bhutta, Moorestown resident and activist

Corporate Leadership: Kathleen Horton, Chief Financial Officer for Food Bank of South Jersey

Community Service: Shannon Gibson, program director at Oaks Integrated Care

The Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council works to identify and address issues that affect women in Burlington County, raise public awareness of the special needs and roles of women, provide mentoring opportunities for women beginning their careers, and enhance the quality of life for all women.
