Event description
The Oslo Freedom Forum is a global human rights conference that unites diverse communities to make the world more peaceful and free.

About this event

We’re back! After 18 months of virtual gatherings, the Human Rights Foundation is thrilled to announce that the 2021 Oslo Freedom Forum will be held in-person on October 4-5 in Miami, Florida.

There is no event in the world that compares to the Oslo Freedom Forum’s unique mix of dissidents, philanthropists, journalists, artists, entrepreneurs, public intellectuals, and world leaders, all of whom come together each year for an immersive experience focused on making the world more peaceful, prosperous, and free.

Our 2021 theme, TRUTH IGNITED, celebrates the stories that spark action across the world, in service of the truth. Dictatorships try to censor or obscure the truth. But we know that as long as one person is willing to speak out, there is hope that the truth will prevail. This year, we will amplify the voices of activists who speak truth to power and ignite movements that seek justice and defy authoritarian regimes.

The 2021 program will feature inspiring talks by activists, scholars, and journalists from around the world, including Belarus, Burma, Cuba, Iraq, the Uyghur Region, and Venezuela. Our event will feature compelling art installations and live music performances at Miami’s magnificent New World Center; a full day of action-oriented panels, fireside chats, and workshops with thought leaders; and special programming on the struggle for human rights and democracy in Latin America.

If you/your company are interested in sponsoring the Oslo Freedom Forum, please contact sponsorships@hrf.org. If you are interested in attending as a member of the media, please contact press@hrf.org.

The Oslo Freedom Forum is a program of the Human Rights Foundation and is made possible in part thanks to the ongoing generous support of our sponsors, including the Sergey Brin Family Foundation, the John Templeton Foundation, the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Twitter, the City of Oslo, Kavli Trust, Unlikely Collaborators, and Amazon.

Theater Talks, which will take place in the mornings in the theater of the New World Center, will explore a wide breadth of human rights issues, pro-democracy causes, and inspiring stories of nobility and triumph against monumental odds. Human rights defenders will share how they are building a society committed to liberty, justice, and truth. Morning programming also features live musical performances and the presentation of the Václav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent.

Interactive Sessions, which will take place in the afternoons, include panels, workshops, and fireside chats on the struggle against tyranny. The goal of interactive programming is to challenge participants to think more critically about the ideas and stories presented during the morning sessions, and create practical, innovative solutions that expose injustice and ignite movements.
