NAMI Indiana's 18th annual Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit will be held on Friday March 19, 2021 as a VIRTUAL event.

About this Event

NAMI Indiana's 18th annual Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit will be held on Friday March 19, 2021 as a VIRTUAL event. Each year, NAMI Indiana pulls together a diverse group of leaders from the criminal justice field to provide in-depth education, novel tools, and networking opportunities for professionals. Our annual Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit becomes a powerful tool for building bridges between systems and entering into beneficial collaborations and partnerships, causing a strong desire for substantial changes.

While our platform will be different this year in the interest of everyone’s health and safety, our goal remains the same – to create significant and positive systems change, and to give stakeholders at the local level tools to reduce the number of individuals with serious mental illness entering or returning to the criminal justice system and help them move into recovery.

Topics Include:

Plenary: “Ernie and Joe: Crisis Cops”

Plenary: CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out On the Streets)

Innovations in jail-based mental health treatment

Competency Restoration: Innovations in Indiana

The Mental Health Consequences of Synthetic Drug Use

The Assessment and Intervention Center

Interacting with Veterans in Crisis

In Our Own Voice

Continuing education credits are available with registration:

● Category I CEUs for social workers & counselors

● ILEA credits for law enforcement

● CLE/NLS (pending approval) for attorneys & judges

● CEUs for certified recovery specialists/community health workers

Our speakers and presenters for the summit include professionals from across a broad range of the mental health and criminal justice spectrum. This annual event gives participants the opportunity to network, collaborate and form partnerships. We hope that these connections will bring changes to those living with mental illnesses that may come into contact with the criminal justice system.

People who attend this event include judges, law enforcement, corrections policy makers, legislators, parole officers, mental health providers, nonprofit leaders, advocates, and people living with serious mental illnesses.
