Event description
The Reynolds School of Journalism's annual Student Documentary Film Festival

About this event

The Reynolds School of Journalism will hold the 2021 Student Documentary Film Festival on Thursday, December 9, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center Wells Fargo Auditorium. Both in-person and virtual options to attend are available.

The event will showcase four student documentaries:

"Import Empire" by Jos Fagundes, Luis Martinez, Noah Lopez and Johanna Guerrero. The owner of a local toy store combines his video game design experience with his big dreams to create a small toy empire, building a thriving community of international collectors in his hometown.

"The Playa" by Lucas Hitchcock, Jake Lorgé, Carley Olson and Bailey Shepard. Every year, thousands of Burners return home to the desert. What draws people to Burning Man, and what is the future of the movement?

"Piconland: The Quest for the Perfect Picon Punch" by Sarah Schuon, Makayla Hardy, Mark Maynard, Richard Bednarski and Autumn King. Piconland invites viewers on a journey across the “big empty” of Nevada to find the perfect Picon Punch - and the one right place in a quickly changing world where they can drink life to the fullest.

"El Alma de México" by Esther Guo, Joffea Burgos, MaryGrace Young, Owen Christopher and Kennedy Vincent. Aztec dancer and choreographer Mariano Lemus creates a safe space for Reno’s Latin dance community, showcasing ballet folklorico - a kaleidoscope of regional dances from Mexico.

In-person attendance to this free event is limited; register by Wednesday, Dec. 8.
