DIAGRAM and New Michigan Press present readings from our four newest chapbook authors: Ashley Chambers, Kell Connor, Julia Madsen, and Lytton Smith in celebration of the publication of the 2021 Chapbook Series.
ASHLEY CHAMBERS is a writer, multimedia artist, theologian, and educator. She holds a Master of Sacred Theology and Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama. KELL CONNOR lives in Nebraska. Their work appears in Bennington Review, Berkeley Poetry Review, Columbia Poetry Review, and elsewhere. They are the author of the chapbook For Destruction (Doomtown Records USA, 2018).
JULIA MADSEN is a first-gen writer, scholar, and educator. She earned an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University and a PhD in English/Creative Writing from the University of Denver. Her first book of poetry, The Boneyard, The Birth Manual, A Burial: Investigations into the Heartland, was published in 2018 by Trembling Pillow Press.
LYTTON SMITH is the author of the poetry collections The All-Purpose Magical Tent and While You Were Approaching the Spectacle But Before You Were Transformed by It, both from Nightboat Books, and the chapbooks Monster Theory (Poetry Society of America) and Your Radar Data Knows Its Thing (Foundlings Press). He is a 2019 NEA Literature translation Fellowship recipient and the translator of over a dozen novels from the Icelandic; his translations of Tómas Jónsson, Bestseller by Guðbergur Bergsson (Open Letter) and Öræfi by Ófeigur Sigurðsson (Deep Vellum) were finalists for the Best translated Book award in 2018 and 2019 respectively. he is part of the hostile environments: Policies, stories, responses research group. He lives in western upstate New York where he teaches creative writing, Black studies, and literature at SUNY Geneseo and serves as the Director of the Center for Integrative Learning.
