2021 Constitution Day Lecture: Race and the Constitution in the 21st Century w/ Sen. Carol Moseley Braun

Join UIC Law and the greater UIC community on Friday, September 17, at Noon (CT) for the 2021 Constitution Day Lecture, featuring Sen. Carol Moseley Braun. Senator Moseley Braun is a former member of the Illinois House of Representatives, a former U.S. Senator from Illinois, and a former U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. Her lecture will trace the racial elements in the U.S. Constitution, the amendments and their racial effect, the Civil Rights Movement, and the effects of the Constitution on race today.

A trailblazer in U.S. politics and a UIC alumna, Senator Moseley Braun was the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate, the first Black U.S. Senator from the Democratic Party, the first woman to defeat an incumbent U.S. Senator in an election, and the first female U.S. Senator from Illinois.
