About this Event

What We are Celebrating

The Juneteenth Holiday commemorates the abolition of slavery. Freedom Day! The day of June 19, 1865 when the last remaining state of the South’s Confederacy was delivered President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation to Galveston, Texas by Federal troops, over two years after its enactment!

Purpose

This celebration is a community event welcoming all cultures and ethnicities. Our purpose is to share the stories and memories that commemorate African American traditions, history, struggles and achievements from the past to the present. The theme of this year is "Still We Rise" to show the perseverance through adversity and that we will continue to break the shackles of oppression and hate.
