Event description

Every day, teens are bombarded with messages telling them what to do, how to look, and who to be with. These messages are found wherever young people turn—on television shows, on the news, on social media, and in video games. These messages often depict teens using drugs and engaging in other unhealthy behaviors. The reality, however, is that the majority of young people do not use drugs or alcohol. In fact, many of them lead their peers in preventing substance misuse and promoting mental health wellness by getting involved in youth-led prevention.

Prevention Action Alliance and the Ohio Youth-Led Prevention Network, including the Youth Council, created the We Are The Majority Rally to celebrate the fact that the majority of young people do not misuse drugs or alcohol. The WATM Rally shows teens they’re not alone in defying the expectations of media and many adults and creates an opportunity for hundreds of young people to advocate for youth-led prevention at the Ohio Statehouse each year. Since 2011, 14,000 teens have marched in the WATM Rally, and we hope you’ll join us this spring.

This year’s WATM Rally is Tuesday, May 5th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and centers around the theme We Believe, We Persist, We Prevent. This theme represents how a young person moves from believing in the value of a healthy lifestyle to persisting in the face of adversity to preventing substance misuse among their peers and promoting mental health wellness.

We’re also hosting the first annual WATM Rally Youth Speech Competition. One talented young person will be invited to share what We Believe, We Persist, We Prevent means to them on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse on May 5th. For more information about the speech competition, check out our speech submission guidelines.

You can find more information about the WATM Rally, the agenda, and how to register below. If you register by April 3rd, we can guarantee your T-shirt sizes. Registration closes April 24th, and space is limited.

Reserved parking for buses and vans will be on Washington Avenue and supervised by National Guard members. Parking for single vehicles is up to the individual driver.

Will there be transportation assistance?

Transportation stipends will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Stipends are available for buses, vans, and single cars for both mileage and parking fees. Click here to download the WATM Rally Travel Reimbursement Award form.

How do the tickets work?

A ticket is needed for every adult and youth that will be attending. You may reserve up to 100 tickets at once.

What information do I need to have to get tickets?

Information for each attendee is not needed for each attendee, only for the main contact/adult leader for the group. You will need to know how many total tickets you need to reserve, and how many of each t-shirt size your group will need.

Can I change my information or t-shirt needs after I've completed registration?

No, changes to your information or t-shirt requests cannot be changed once you've registered. If you find that your t-shirt needs have changed the day of the rally, there will be a t-shirt swap station where you can exchange shirts for the appropriate size.
