Course Title

Minnesota State Building Code,

Chapter 3, Alternate Means and Methods

Course Description

2020 Contractor Training will focus on three main areas; Chapter 3 of the MSBC, Alternate Means and Methods, and the MN State Energy Code.

Building Planning (Chapter 3) considered by some as the most critical part of the code due to its nature of setting the many parameters for residential projects. Additionally, exiting, window fall protection, stairs, emergency escape and rescue are included with the various topics. These will be covered in detail so participants can be confident in their project planning and construction details.

As new building materials and methods emerge constantly, it is imperative industry professionals understand the process of approving Alternate Means and Methods. Participants will learn how to verify materials that meet the intent, but are not specifically addressed, by the State Building Code and the process to gain approval of local Building Departments.

Approved by Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry for 7 continuing education hours (including 1 hour of energy) for residential contractors, building officials and manufactured home installers.
