Event description

During the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), the small town of Oberammergau, Germany, suffered deaths due to war and the bubonic plague, just like many Central European cities and villages. The people of the town in 1633, sick of the continued death, vowed to God that if they were spared from the plague from then on, they would perform a play every ten years.

After the vow, the death rate slowly decreased until there was only 1 death in July of 1633. So the entire town kept their part of the bargain and performed the first play in 1634, after which they were completely spared from the plague then on.

Since then, the town comes together every ten years to perform The Passion for increasingly large crowds. It takes over 2000 participants from the town to be put on, all of whom are residents of Oberammergau.

The next play is going to be put on in 2020 and we really want to go! What we need to know is if you'd like to go with us. Contact us if you'd like to know more!

If you're interested, please RSVP as Interested so that we know how many people want to go.
