About this Event

The Nueva Design Thinking Institute (DTI) is our annual summer institute dedicated to sharing design thinking practices and processes with other educators. DTI will run from Tuesday, June 23 to Friday, June 26, 2020. Each day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end around 4:30 p.m. On Friday, we end at 3:30 p.m. to accommodate for participants’ travel plans.

We welcome all educators interested in incorporating design thinking, or aspects of design thinking, into their teaching practice as well as those who are already using design thinking and want to further deepen their practice. Participants will gain and deepen their understanding of how to create design thinking curricula that foster creative and innovative problem solving skills.

The registration fee includes a curated binder of materials; daily meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks); guest speakers, and a wine & cheese reception after the day's activities on Thursday, June 25. Participants are responsible for arranging their own hotel accommodations and this is not included in the registration fee. While we do not provide shuttles or other forms of transportation to Nueva, our San Mateo campus is easily accessible by Caltrain and other public transportation systems; please refer to Google maps or the Caltrain website for details. Uber and Lyft are also widely available in our area.

Space is limited so please register all group members at the same time. If purchasing tickets for multiple participants, kindly note that you are able to add/edit their names once your purchase is complete. We ask that each attendee complete the registration form as it inquires about food allergies and accommodations, emergency contact, etc.

If you will be joining us from out of town, we recommend looking into the following hotels for your accommodations:

If you utilize sites such as expedia.com or hotwire.com, search for hotels in San Mateo, Foster City, or San Carlos.

For further details about DTI, the Innovation Lab, the Nueva School, and/or our team, please visit our website, email us at designthinking@nuevaschool.org, or call us at 650-350-4540.

Financial assistance awards are available for educators who do not have access to adequate professional development funds. Please email institutes@nuevaschool.org to inquire about the process to apply for these awards.
