Event description
The nation’s leading brownfield education and advocacy event is back!

About this Event

Join the National Brownfields Coalition, Center for Creative Land Recycling, and Smart Growth America for the nation’s leading brownfield education and advocacy event, coming to Washington D.C. this April.

The National Brownfields Leadership Summit builds on the priorities, interests and momentum of the prior policy conferences in 2018 and 2019. With your input and support, we are bringing structure and purpose to our movement to realize our funding, policy and administrative reform goals. Join us in D.C. to be part of the leadership that directs future brownfield redevelopment with 2020 foresight. Check out the current agenda!

This Summit is the all-around best opportunity for brownfields practitioners from the private, public and non-profit sectors to:

  • Hear the latest about federal policy and funding for brownfield-relevant programs, and get your questions answered;
  • Grow your knowledge of available brownfield resources and how to creatively combine them; and
  • Share your experiences with members of Congress and their staff to shape tomorrow’s programs and protect brownfields funding.

Knowledge of federal policy and its development are an important part of every brownfield practitioner’s professional toolbox, and that is why the Summit is important for everyone, regardless of your day job or level of experience working with brownfields.

Day 1: April 1, 2020: Summit

Connect with redevelopment stakeholders from around the country and local, state and federal government representatives to hear the latest innovations, exchange ideas and techniques, and build mutual support for brownfields redevelopment.

Venue: Holland & Knight LLP 800 17th St. Washington, D.C.

Day 2: April 2, 2020: Day on The Hill

Join the National Brownfields Coalition to take our message of support for brownfield redevelopment to Capitol Hill. Come get briefed on legislative and funding priorities, followed by meetings with your representatives.

Venue: TBA

"The efforts of the Leadership team can be very effective at identifying challenges with the Brownfield program and advocating for positive change with our congressional representatives. I encourage all Brownfield practitioners and advocates to join the efforts of the National Brownfield Coalition to identify and promote positive changes for this vital issue."

~ Randy Brant, Geosyntec

“I participated in the 2018 & 2019 National Leadership Summits to be with like minded peers from all over the country working to cleanup and repurpose polluted sites and revitalize economies. I've worked alongside CCLR’s dedicated professionals to learn about and advocate for programs and funding that fulfills my life's mission and transforms communities through brownfield redevelopment. I hope to see you all in Washington in April 2020!”

~ LeeAnn Tomas-Foster, Arcadis

Please note:

Because federal funds cannot support advocacy, EPA grantees who attend Day 2 of this event must ensure that no federal grant funds support the portion of their travel that relates to advocacy. Additional costs attributed to participating in Day 2 may not be supported with EPA grant funds. For more information on how to handle the financial restrictions that your grant imposes on legislative advocacy, view this document. For other specific questions related to grant funding for travel, please ask your EPA grant manager.
