2020 Front Line Defenders Award Ceremony

About this Event

(en français ci-dessous; en español a continuación, يتبع العربية)

Join us in honouring the five regional winners of the 2020 Front Line Defenders Award Ceremony, on 9 December at 1 PM (GMT).* On the occasion of International Human Rights Defenders Day, this event will celebrate the work and resilience of five courageous human rights defenders.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Award Ceremony will be held online and streamed via the Front Line Defenders website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.

The annual Front Line Defenders Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk was established in 2005 to honour the work of human rights defenders (HRDs) who are making outstanding contributions to the defence and advancement of the human rights of others, often at great personal risk to themselves.

“The Covid pandemic has shown a light on corrupt, incompetent and repressive governments failing in their response to the crisis. These Award recipients are protecting some of the most marginalized communities in their countries. They continue to step forward as representatives of their communities at exactly the moment governments are doubling down on attacks against visible HRDs. The courage and integrity of the human rights defenders we honour today shines brightly as inspiration of how we can work together to achieve positive change.”

- Andrew Anderson, Executive Director

* The event will be available on our channels and website after 1 PM GMT and can be viewed at any time.
