Introduction

Enterprise UAS will be hosting a two-day training event in partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Department at the Del Valle Regional Training Center. All pilot skills training will utilize the testing methods outlined under NFPA 2400 (Standard for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Used for Public Safety Operations) which was co-developed by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology – US Department of Commerce) and ATSM (American Society for Testing and Materials). The event will be organized in a circuit training format to provide all attendees with an opportunity to participate in every training course.

Courses:

Small sUAS Pilot Skills Training All attendees will receive classroom instruction on the various test methods outlined in the NIST/NPFA 2400 training guidebook. Following the instruction, each pilot will have an opportunity to complete one of the basic test methods utilizing the NIST testing structures by flying a DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise aircraft. Each attendee will be given a copy of the guidebook to take with them after the event to incorporate these methods into their departments pilot training program.

Large sUAS Pilot Skills Training All pilots will have an opportunity to complete the Large sUAS testing exercises using a DJI Matrice 210 with XT2 thermal and Z30 zoom payloads. This training will teach students how to quickly and effectively operate the equipment for long range zoom targeting and thermal detection.

sUAS Payload Drop System Pilot Skills Training All pilots will have an opportunity to complete the sUAS Payload Drop System testing exercises. This training will teach students how to safely and accurately deliver a payload to a target location.

Public Safety UAS Thermography Students will learn how to interpret sUAS Thermal Imaging from a certified thermographer. Instructor will provide a detailed overview of how to operate the DJI Zenmuse XT2.

10 Important Concepts for Safely Operating a Public Safety UAS Program Learn ten important concepts for running a public safety UAS program. Instructor will cover training, standard operating guidelines, COAs/Part 107s, maintenance, community engagement, and much more!

Inspecting Vehicle of Interest with sUAS Students will use the aircraft to inspect a vehicle (bus or car) in a post disaster scenario for survivors or suspicious objects. NIST testing fixtures will be integrated into the exercise to test the skills of each pilot.

Scouting Barricaded Suspect with sUAS Students will use the aircraft and payloads to identify the location of a suspect in a multistory building. Instructor will ask the pilot for various views in an overwatch scenario. NIST testing fixtures will be integrated into the exercise to test the skills of each pilot. A second pilot will be asked to fly a smaller aircraft through an open window and perch for internal video perspective.

sUAS Search and Rescue: Car Over The Ledge Scenario Students will use the aircraft and payloads to inspect a vehicle which has been driven over the ledge. Then they will search the grassy area around the car for survivors and objects that were flung out of the car upon impact. NIST testing fixtures will be integrated into the exercise to test the skills of each pilot.

sUAS HazMat Response for Overturned Tanker Students will use the aircraft and payloads to inspect an overturned tanker. Instructor will review the different tools available and the types of information and data that can be gathered safely using an sUAS

Public Safety Mapping with Pix4D React Learn how Pix4D React provides fast real-time mapping to provide situational awareness for public safety operations.

senseFly eBee X Demo Learn about the capabilities of the senseFly eBee X! This industry-leading fixed wing sUAS can fly over an hour to create detailed maps and models using optical and thermal data.
