Morning Session 7:45 am - 12:30 pm: Onsite Clinical Instructor Certification

Afternoon Session 12:30 pm - 5:15 pm: Giving and Receiving Feedback

SCCEs, CIs, and Texas Consortium members will gather and discuss meaningful topics in the realm of physical therapy clinical education. Attendees can earn up to 8 CCUs for attending the entire workshop. Participants can attend just the morning, just the afternoon or all day. The morning session will be the onsite portion of the Texas Consortium Clinical Instructor Certification Course. Following the morning session, lunch will be provided prior to jumping into an afternoon filled with valuable information about communication. Peggy Gleeson and Jenise Engleke will kick the afternoon off with a session on giving and receiving feedback. Come learn the difference in appreciation, coaching and feedback, how to use the feedback formula and all about leaky faces...you have to come to find out what this means! Following the speaker keynote sessions, there will be time for round table discussions on Anxiety and Stress Management for Students, 2:1 Clinical Education Model, Helping Students Increase Confidence, and Student Remediation, among others. Participants will earn 4 CCUs for the morning session and 4 CCUs for the afternoon session including keynote and roundtable discussions. Lunch is provided whether you come for just the morning, just the afternoon or all day!

**The morning session will be the onsite portion of the Texas Consortium's Clinical Instructor Certification Course. To attend the morning session, participants must complete the online portion of the Clinical Instructor Certification Course prior to arrival. The online portion will award an additional 6 CCUs and is a pre-requisite to completing the morning onsite course. Following completion of the online pre-requisite course and the onsite morning course, the participant will receive documentation from the Texas Consortium of Physical Therapy Clinical Education verifying achievement as a Certified Clinical Instructor in Texas.

Keynote Session:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understand the importance of setting clear expectations in order to provide purposeful feedback.
  2. Discuss various ways to provide feedback & importance of timing.
  3. Review & practice a specific method for giving difficult feedback.
  4. Identify important aspects of receiving feedback.
  5. Discuss the three triggers that make giving and receiving feedback difficult.
  6. Differentiate appreciation, coaching and evaluation.
  7. Recognize and understand your blind spots.
  8. Understand how wiring and temperament affect your story.
