About this Event

We are excited to announce that the Midwest Innocence Project’s 2020 Champions of Innocence fall fundraising event will be held on Friday, October 9, beginning at noon. This event, planned in conjunction with our Nebraska Regional Advisory Council, raises critical funds needed to bring innocent Nebraskans home. It will be a free and fully virtual lunch-and-learn event, streamed live. (We are in the process of applying for CLE accreditation.)

You can help us achieve justice for more innocent clients by sponsoring our 2020 event. Enclosed is a packet outlining the sponsorship levels. Your support provides critical DNA tests, forensic analysis, and hours of investigation as we work towards exoneration for the close to 50 Nebraskans currently waiting for our assistance. Indeed, your sponsorship is an investment in the values we all hold dear – liberty, equality, and justice. We cannot do it without you.

This year at the event, we are honored to present our 2020 Champion For The Innocent Award to Tracy Hightower-Henne, former Executive Director of the Nebraska Innocence Project and counsel for Juneal Pratt, who was released in 2017 after serving over 41 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.

We hope you’ll join us for this lunchtime livestream, which brings together freed MIP clients and advocates who will share their personal stories and information about our organization and our work to reverse wrongful convictions in Nebraska. In addition to reflecting on how we have continued to expand our vision of justice for Nebraska over the last year, the event will also feature an incredible panel, moderated by Nebraska Managing Attorney, Rachel Wester, to discuss issues surrounding criminal justice reform and wrongful convictions.

Our panelists:

• Senator Adam Morfeld

• Former County Attorney, Randall Ritnour

• Exoneree, Ricky Kidd

Please contact us at office@themip.org for further information. Together, we can provide justice for innocent people in our region.
